Miners Sign Former Major Leaguer Marcus Jensen

MESA, ARIZONA –Mesa Miners Manager Les Lancaster announced today that the Miners have signed former major leaguer Marcus Jensen. Jensen will take the roster spot of catcher Cole Cicatelli who was put on the disabled list with tendonitis of the right shoulder.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound veteran catcher has played for seven major league teams in his 15 years of professional baseball including the San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, and the Texas Rangers. Originally drafted by the Giants in the first round (33rd overall) of the 1990 draft, Jensen has played in a total of 145 major league games. Jensen joins shortstop Cleatus Davidson as the two players on the Miners roster who have major league experience.

In 2004, Jensen played in Mexico hitting .191 with 3 RBI in 16 games. His last professional team in the United States was in 2003 with the AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees, the Columbus Clippers. With the Clippers, he batted .224 with 3 HR and 15 RBI in 66 games.

A resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, the 32-year-old is a switch hitter and throws right-handed.
