Scorpions Make Roster Moves
December 15, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â The New Mexico Scorpions made their first roster move in over six weeks today, as rookie Alexandre Piche (pronounced Pee-SHAY) was signed and fellow rookie Ryan Power was placed on waivers.
Piche, 24, was a two-time University Cup champion at the University of Quebec-Trois Rivieres (called Three Rivers in English). Last year he was second on the team with 39 points (20g-19a) in 29 games. This season the 5-foot-11, 198-pound native of Rimouski, Quebec attended training camp with the San Diego Gulls of ECHL before returning to his native province to play with the Saguenay Fjord of the North American Hockey League (formerly Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League), where he posted 18 points (6g-12a) in 14 games.
"Alexandre should help our club in a number of different areas," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "He had good offensive numbers in college, but the reports I've received are that he always has some grit and jam to his game as well."
Piche is expected to be in the lineup starting this Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18 as the Scorpions visit the San Angelo Saints for back-to-back games. Both games start at 6:05 p.m. MST, and will be broadcast on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.
The Scorpions return home on Sunday, Dec. 19 as the Tulsa Oilers make their only appearance of the season at Tingley Coliseum. Faceoff is 5:05 p.m. The game is Comcast Family 4-Pack Night, as families can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas all for $44. After the game, it's Skate with the Scorpions presented by Blades in Rio Rancho.
Tickets for all Scorpions regular season home games are available at the Scorpions Team Store, located at 6300 San Mateo NE at the corner of San Mateo and Academy in the Far North Shopping Center, and any TicketMaster outlet. Single-game tickets start as low as $11.
Ten-game packages and Scorpions voucher books make great stocking stuffers this holiday season and are available starting at $110. Voucher books are available at the Scorpions office or at any of the team's remaining home games prior to Christmas. For more information, call the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825).
