Yuma Scorpions News Release
(Yuma, AZ) â The Yuma Scorpions announced tonight that they have reached the 24-man Opening Day Roster limit by releasing pitcher Miguel Tena, and placing starting 3rd Baseman Alex Arias on the 7-day disabled list. Tena was signed by Scorpions' Manager Benny Castillo because Castillo thought Tena was one of the stronger pitchers he saw during the off-season, but Tena struggled during spring training. Tena pitched in two official exhibition games, and gave up 3 earned runs and 5 hits in 4 innings of work, while walking seven and striking out three. "At the start of spring training, Miguel's fastball was clocking in the â90's, and his control was strong. But as camp went on, we just didn't see that same velocity or control. It was a tough decision to make, since Miguel's given a great contribution. But once again, it came down to numbers, and we had to let Miguel go."
Meanwhile, putting Arias on the disabled list gives the former World Series champion a chance to rest a slightly pulled hamstring that has bothered him throughout training camp. Arias had been receiving treatment for the injury for the last few days, but Castillo decided it was better to allow Arias to rest the hamstring early in the season to be ready for the long run.
