Mesa Miners to begin inaugural season

MESA, ARIZONA –The Mesa Miners will begin their inaugural Golden Baseball League season Thursday, May 26, against the Yuma Scorpions at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

There are many special activities planned for the Miner's opening weekend including "Baseball For A Buck." All tickets for the games on May 26 to May 29 are only one dollar.

"This will be a great opportunity for the whole family to watch the return of minor league baseball to the Valley" said Miners general manager Becky Thielen. "With opening weekend tickets only one dollar, this is an affordable way for fans to check out Mesa Miners baseball and to see what we are all about. Along with the exciting baseball games, we also have other events planned including premium give-a-ways, a fireworks show, and an appearance from Pat Sajak."

On Friday, May 27, GBL investor and "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak will be at HoHoKam Park to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Also, the first 2,000 fans to enter the gate will receive a FREE Pat Sajak bobblehead. Sajak, an avid baseball fan, hosts "The Pat Sajak Baseball Hour" which features interviews with players, managers, writers, and broadcasters.

Other activities for opening weekend include pre-game pep rallies starting at 4:30 p.m. at HoHoKam Park. There will be a live band playing, along with inflatables for kids outside of the stadium. On Saturday, May 28, the first 2,000 fans will receive a FREE foam pick axe courtesy of ABC Plumbing & Rooter. There will also be a post-game FIREWORKS show following the game on Saturday. On Sunday, May 29, kids 12 and under are invited to run the bases after the game.
