New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions put a complete effort together Wednesday night in a 7-2 victory over Odessa. New Mexico jumped out early and never looked back.

New Mexico knew they needed a fast start and that is just what they got. Aaron MacInnis ripped a wrist shot through the five hole and into the net at the 2:44 mark of the opening frame. Konrad Reeder extended the lead with a breakaway goal less than a minute later.

Odessa closed the gap quickly. Mike MacDonald picked up a rebound goal at the 4:19 mark, making it a 2-1 game.

The Scorpions pushed the lead back to two when Erik Johnson threw a shot on net that produced a rebound. Mitch Stephens was there and pushed it to the back of the net giving the Scorpions back their two goal lead. Late in the period Konrad Reeder had a chance to extend the lead on a power play shot, but was unsuccessful.

The second period appeared to be quiet at first, but ended with a bang. Reeder scored his second goal on the night when he had a two on nothing breakaway with Robertson at 16:34 into the second period.

The lead increased on the power play when Stephens fancy stick work netted him his second goal of the game. In the final minute of the period they lead grew larger when Vladimir Hartinger lifted a pass to Robertson. Robertson batted it out of the air and into the net.

Robertson scored his second goal of the night early in the third period. After blocking a pass, the forward raced into the offensive zone two men down. With a gorgeous move, he lifted the puck into the net for a Scorps shorthanded goal. John Osborne finished the night's scoring with a power play goal.

The Scorpions put 48 shots on net, a season high. The win improved the Scorpions to 3-0-1 on the current seven game home stand.

Friday and Saturday the Corps Christi Rayz will return to Rio Rancho. On Saturday, the first 1,500 fans inside the gate will get a Stanley bobble head, courtesy of the City of Rio Rancho.
