ALBUQUERQUE â The New Mexico Scorpions have been a busy bunch in the greater Albuquerque community over the past few weeks, and will continue to be busy as the holiday season grows ever closer.
Here's a sampling of what the Scorpions have done over the past two weeks:
· Raised over $2,500 for All Faiths Receiving Home and PB&J through a raffle conducted by the Scorpions Wives and Girlfriends over Thanksgiving Weekend (Nov. 24, 26 and 27) at Tingley Coliseum.
· Collected almost 200 toys last weekend at Tingley Coliseum (Dec. 3 and 4) for the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign.
· Raised over $1,000 for Toys for Tots through a raffle conducted last weekend (Dec. 3 and 4) at Tingley Coliseum.
· Raised over $1,000 for the New Mexico Blue Star Mothers at Tingley Coliseum last Saturday, Dec. 4, plus a loaded SUV full of supplies that will be sent to our troops overseas in Iraq.
· Scorpions owner Doug Frank was "arrested" earlier today and raised $1,275 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of the MDA Lock-Up campaign.
Here's what the Scorpions have planned in the coming days:
· Friday, Dec. 10 â Scorpions left wing Mike Possin and other Scorpions players will be appearing on KISS 97.3 FM at 8 a.m. live on location at KB Homes, Bluewater Rd just off Unser Blvd. Possin will be bringing toys for the KISS FM Toy Drive, as they try to fill a house full of toys.
· Saturday, Dec. 11 â New Mexico's WB Teddy Bear Toss â Watch the Scorpions face off against Colorado and bring a teddy bear to toss onto the ice when the Scorpions score their first goal. All teddy bears collected will be donated to area charities and children's hospitals.
· Monday, Dec. 13 â Scorpions players Shawn Legault, Aaron Schneekloth, Trevor Hammer, Ivan Svarny, Ryan Power and Jordan Bianchin along with Stanley the Scorpion will be delivering teddy bears from 2 to 3:30 p.m. to Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, 1217 1st St. NW.
· Wednesday, Dec. 15 â Scorpions players will be attending the monthly Operation Sting luncheon at 12 noon with the Spina Bifida Association of New Mexico at Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital (1127 University NE).

The Scorpions are back in action at Tingley Coliseum tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11 as they host the Colorado Eagles. Both games start at 7:05 p.m., and both will be broadcast on 1050 KTBL-AM and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.
Tomorrow's game is Sonic Trading Card Night to the first 1,000 fans. In addition to New Mexico's WB Teddy Bear Toss, Saturday's game is also Sonic Miguel Beaudry Bobblehead Night to the first 1,500 spectators.
Tickets for all Scorpions regular season home games are available at the Scorpions Team Store, located at 6300 San Mateo NE at the corner of San Mateo and Academy in the Far North Shopping Center, and any TicketMaster outlet. Single-game tickets start as low as $11.
Ten-game packages and Scorpions voucher books make great stocking stuffers this holiday season and are available starting at $110.
