New Mexico Scorpions News Release

New Mexico Scorpions' President Dave Ellett and Assistant Coach Randy Murphy announced today that defenseman Aaron MacInnis has been re-signed for the 2007-08 season. MacInnis helped anchor the defense last season for the Scorpions.

Fan in the Land of Enchantment got a glimpse early last season how much of an asset MacInnis would be. The Port Hood, N.S. native's first Scorpions goal came in the team's first win of the 2006-07 season against Youngstown in overtime.

Like his uncle, soon to be Hall of Fame inductee Al MacInnis, Aaron owns a hard shot that many goalies have trouble seeing. The 28-year-old's offensive skills are just one facet of his game as he excelled to become one of the Scorpions top defensemen last season.

"Aaron played a huge role for our team last season," said Murphy. "He provides us veteran leadership and will eat up a lot of minutes playing in all situations."

Including the playoffs, MacInnis played in all 82 of the Scorpions contests, one of only five players who can make that claim. The 6'1", 205-pounder collected 43 points (16G, 27A) and finished with a +28 plus/minus rating.

During the regular season MacInnis' +28 rating placed him second among all Central Hockey League defenseman. Five of his regular season goals were game winning tallies, highest among CHL blue liners.

"With his work ethic and skill level, Aaron is a player young guys will be able to look up to," said Murphy.

Scorpions full season ticket packages start as low as $324 for all 32 exciting Central Hockey League home games. Interest free payment plans are available to get in on the fast paced action inside the Santa Ana Star Center.

The Scorpions also have mini-plans available for the 2007-08 season for as low as $63. The mini-plans focus on an average of one game per month and are centered around many of the prime dates on the schedule.
