Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announce the re-signing of second-year center Jeff Genovy for the upcoming 2007-08 season.
Genovy played the first part of the 2006-07 season with the Bucks, before sitting out the second half due to a knee injury. In 29 games Genovy scored six goals, with 12 assists for 18 points, to go along with one power-play goal, four power-play assists, and one game-winning goal. In just his third game of the season last year Genovy picked up a hat trick and an assist in the Bucks 5-3 win in Austin. Genovy tallied points in 11 of the 29 games he suited up last season.
"Jeff has not yet reached his full potential", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski, "I don't think he knows his potential. If he plays like I think he can he will be one of the stars in this league".
In that game against Austin Genovy injured his knee, forcing him out of action for a week. He returned on November 15th and played solid for the Bucks, before suffering a season-ending injury January 19th, again in Austin.
"When he got hurt that night all I could think about was getting him back with us this year" Ruskowski said, "we both knew he had some unfinished business playing for us". "In fact our team did not perform as well without him last season", Ruskowski continued, "He will be a force to reckon with in the corner".
Genovy was drafted in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round, with the 96th overall pick.
Prior to turning pro Genovy, a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, played his college hockey at Division I Clarkson University, three of those years he was a teammate of new Bucks goalie Dustin Traylen. During his four years at Clarkson Genovy played in 131 games, netting 22 goals, with 34 assists for 56 points. His best year with the Golden Knights came in his senior season as he tallied 12 goals 15 assists, and 27 points.
Genovy spent one season in the USHL playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers, scoring 24 goals, with 24 assists for 48 points in 60 games.
The Bucks, who open training camp October 8th, will open the 2007-08 CHL season October 19th in New Mexico, with the home opener set for October 26th against Division Rival Corpus Christi. For ticket information call 718-BUCK (2825).
