SCORPIONS RECAP â
LAREDO 4, SCORPIONS 1 â The Bucks jumped out to an early lead on Friday and never looked back in a 4-1 win over the Scorpions. Alexandre Piche scored the only goal for the Scorpions while Guy St. Vincent stopped 28 of 30 shots in relief of Miguel Beaudry.
SCORPIONS 4, RIO GRANDE VALLEY 2 â Mike Oliveira gave the Scorpions their second hat trick in a week and Konrad McKay tallied a season-high four assists as the Scorpions handed the Killer Bees a 4-2 defeat on Saturday. Alexandre Piche added a goal and an assist while Miguel Beaudry stopped 35 shots for the Scorpions.
SCORPIONS 2, CORPUS CHRISTI 1 (SO) â It was a goaltending duel on Sunday as the Scorpions prevailed over the Rayz 2-1 in a shootout. Troy Ilijow scored his first goal as a Scorpion late in the first period, only to see Jason Baird tie it for the Rayz less than two minutes later, and that did it for the scoring in regulation. Randy Murphy assisted on Ilijow's goal and was credited with the shootout game-winner. Miguel Beaudry stopped 39 of 40 shots during the game and all four Rayz attempts in the shootout, while Brent Zelenewich stopped 45 shots for Corpus Christi.
SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS â
TOPEKA â The Tarantulas make their first-ever visit to Tingley Coliseum for back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday. The Scorpions took a pair of games in Topeka back in November, 5-2 on Nov. 2 and 4-3 on Nov. 19. Topeka is led offensively by rookie Mike Lukajic (25g-18a) and recently acquired Olivier Maltais (19g-24a), both of whom have 43 points. Lukajic leads all CHL rookies with 25 goals. Goalie David St. Germain (9-23-3, 3.48 GAA) leads the league with 23 losses. Topeka plays at Colorado tomorrow before traveling south to battle the Scorpions.
OKLAHOMA CITY â The Blazers make their only Tingley visit of the season on Sunday after taking a 5-2 win from the Scorpions at home on Nov. 3, thanks to four assists from Dallas Stars forward Brenden Morrow, who is not currently with the team. Michel Beausoleil is second in the CHL with 35 goals and leads the Blazers with 55 points. Garrett Prosofsky is averaging almost a point per game with 36 points (10g-26a) in 37 games. Sean Connors (13-7-6, 2.69 GAA) and Boyd Ballard (7-11-2, 2.89 GAA) are the Blazers' goaltenders.

ILIJOW SIGNED â The Scorpions signed right wing Troy Ilijow prior to last weekend's games after Shawn Legault was granted a leave of absence by the Central Hockey League. Ilijow, 22, responded by scoring his first Scorpions goal on Sunday at Corpus Christi. The 6-foot-1, 212-pound native of Thunder Bay, Ontario played 38 games last season for the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, posting three goals and 12 points. Legault is expected to be back in the Scorpions lineup this weekend after fulfilling a family commitment.
STINGERS â Randy Murphy leads the Scorpions against Topeka with six points (2g-4a) in the two games, followed by Mike Oliveira (2g-3a) and Konrad McKay (3g-2a) with five points apiece... Erik Adams scored both goals for the Scorpions against Oklahoma City. Alexandre Piche had his four-game goal-scoring streak snapped on Sunday, while Konrad McKay saw his four-game assists streak come to an end as well... Murphy leads the Scorpions with six game-winning goals this season, including both of the team's shootout victories... The Scorpions have allowed two goals or less in six of their last seven games... The Scorpions are just 5-10-2 on Fridays this season but sport a 12-4-1 mark on Saturdays.
