New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), have signed Chris Robertson. Fans will be familiar with the name but not the face. During the 1996-97 season Scorpions fans cheered on a player of the same name.

Head Coach Ray Edwards is no stranger to Robertson as the Scorpions bench boss coached the center during his rookie year two seasons ago. The Owen Sound, Ont. native will be looked upon to anchor one of the lines throughout the season.

"Playing for Coach Edwards again is very exciting," said Robertson. "I expect big things for the team with Coach and a great future for myself in New Mexico."

Robertson played for San Angelo his rookie year and Corpus Christi in the CHL last season. In two years the 6', 190-pounder, appeared in 125 games scoring 69 points (33G, 36A).

Fans will be excited to see the young Robertson on the ice at the New Rio Rancho Events Center. The 22-year-old has been a fan favorite everywhere he played because of his great work ethic.

"This is a big year for Chris. He has been in the league for a couple years and we are looking for him to elevate his game this season," said Edwards. "He is also a great skater and has a good shot. He will work hard on the ice and really be one of the team's young leaders."

A couple people around the Scorpions are used to being around Robertson on the ice. Director of Community Relations Randy Murphy and current Scorpions defenseman Matt Frick both played with Robertson last season for the Rayz.

"It is always nice seeing guys you know around the team," said Robertson. "Being able to again play with Matt and see Murph is a bonus."
