Scorpion's 10-Goal Outburst Wins Performance Of The Week

December 26, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the New Mexico Scorpions 10-goal game versus the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on December 15th is the recipient of week nine's Performance of the Week winning by the narrowest margin of any poll thus far. The Scorpions scored 10 goals in a game for the second time this season and their offensive fireworks included a team-record seven goals in the first period.

The Scorpions received 33% of the votes (667 votes) just slipping past both Jason Tapp (Corpus Christi goaltender who made 58 saves in a victory on Dec. 13) and Ken Carroll (Bossier-Shreveport goaltender who recorded his 23rd career shutout, a CHL record). The two goaltenders each received 28% of the 1985 votes cast. New Mexico will be automatically considered for the 2007-08 CHL Performance of the Year which will be announced in April, 2008.

New Mexico is currently 12-10-4 on the season and sitting in third place in the Southwest Division. If the playoffs were to begin today, the Scorpions would be nestled into the fourth spot (five teams make the post season).
