Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks proudly announce their 2010 community relations programs for the Delaware Valley to help promote reading, good behavior, healthy lifestyles and more. From mascot appearances to ticket donations and so much more, the Blue Rocks seek to positively affect kids in our community. Below are some of the programs in place to accomplish that goal.
Rocky's Reading Challenge
Promotes the importance of reading and rewards students for reaching reading goals. Each student who completes the program receives two (2) tickets to a Blue Rocks game. Last year over 40,000 tickets were distributed to area students that completed the Challenge.
Outstanding Student
The program is offered to schools to reward their students for outstanding behavior. The teachers determine the criteria that a student must meet to receive the award. It could be anything from exceptional grades, to extra-curricular activity, to excellent behavior. Each "Outstanding Student" is rewarded with a ticket (with a ballpark-style meal included) to a Blue Rocks game where they are honored, on the field, before the game.
School Visitations
Each year the Blue Rocks and their mascot Rocky Bluewinkle visit up to 70 schools in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey to promote our school programs. Nothing gets the kids going like a giant blue moose in the classroom or auditorium.
Your Health Rocks! (Youth Health Initiative)
The Blue Rocks are very concerned about local childhood obesity rates and support programs that help conquer this epidemic. In the past year, the Rocks have formed partnerships with Nemours Health and Prevention Services and the Police Athletic League's CHAMPIONS program. If you have a program that is geared towards active youth, or childhood obesity, please contact the Blue Rocks to see how they can help.
For more information and to participate or help with any of the above programs, please contact our director of community relations Dave Arthur at darthur@bluerocks.com, or (302) 888-2015. More information is available on the Blue Rocks official website, www.bluerocks.com, and clicking on "School Programs" under "Community & Kids".
The Blue Rocks will open play in 2010 on April 8 in Myrtle Beach, SC against the Pelicans (Atlanta Braves). The home opener comes on April 16 with the first of a record 15 fireworks shows at Frawley Stadium this season as the Blue Crew hosts the Potomac Nationals (Washington Nationals). Every Friday in 2010 will have post-game fireworks at Frawley.
