Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - Colorado Eagles defenseman Aaron Schneekloth announced Friday his official retirement as a player, following a professional career that spanned 12 seasons, seven of which were spent in an Eagles uniform. Additionally, the Eagles also announced that Schneekloth will join head coach Chris Stewart on the Eagles bench as the team's new assistant coach. Schneekloth replaces Greg Pankewicz, who is departing his position to pursue other ventures.
"Obviously, this was an extremely difficult decision after playing this game that I love so much for this period of time," said Schneekloth. "I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to spend the last seven years here in Colorado and now to have the opportunity to remain a part of this team. The Colorado Eagles have been so great to both me and my family since I arrived back in 2006. Playing for a first-class organization, in front of these amazing fans and being able to win a championship, this has been the absolute highlight of my career. " added Schneekloth.
Schneekloth was named the ECHL's Defenseman of the year in 2012, while being voted the CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman in both 2009 and 2010. A four-time All-Star and a member of both the CHL's All-Decade Team and the Colorado Eagles All-Decade Team, Schneekloth was also named to the ALL-ECHL Team in 2012 and was voted to the ALL-CHL Team on three separate occasions. He retires as the Eagles all-time leader in points, goals and assists by a defenseman. He also departs having etched his name into the Eagles record book ranked 5th overall in points (356), 2nd in games played (382) and 6th in goals (111).
"There is no question that Aaron is the best defenseman to ever put on an Eagles sweater," said Eagles president and general manager, Chris Stewart. "His contributions to this organization and this community will leave a lasting legacy and will serve as a model for those players who will wear this uniform in the years to come. In addition, we want to thank Greg for the 10 years of dedication he has given to this team as both a player and a coach. We wish him the absolute best in his future endeavors and I know that he will continue to be a success in whatever he chooses to pursue," added Stewart.
