SBFC Looks to Extend Unbeaten Road Streak to Seven Games
May 20, 2016 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Sky Blue FC News Release
Tinton Falls, N.J. - Sky Blue FC (2-2-1, 7 points) will return to National Women's Soccer League action on Saturday night, looking to extend an unbeaten road streak to seven matches when it plays the Western New York Flash (2-3-0, 6 points) at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester. Kickoff for the match is slated for 7:00 p.m., with fans able to watch all of the action live in HD via YouTube.
"We look forward to getting back on the field after a good result last week," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "We know we did not do ourselves any justice in the second half the last time we played Western New York, and we are anxious to correct some of those mistakes we made. We fully realize the importance of getting a result in this match, and that is exactly what we are looking to do on Saturday night."
Sky Blue FC comes into this fixture on the heels of a home win last weekend over the Boston Breakers, 1-0, and it is also riding a six-game unbeaten road streak that dates back to the 2015 season. The last time these two clubs met was on May 7th at Yurcak Field, where the Flash was able to score a pair of late goals to steal a 2-1 result. Sky Blue FC took a 1-0 lead into the intermission of that outing after Raquel Rodriguez and Maya Hayes hooked up on a spectacular goal in the 35th minute, but Western New York secured the final scoreline after being given a penalty kick in the 71st minute and then hitting a game-winner in the 86th minute.
One significant addition to this pairing is British forward Leah Galton to the Sky Blue FC roster after she missed the first five contests of the NWSL season while finishing up school at Hofstra University. Sky Blue FC acquired Galton after making her the no. 13 overall pick in the 2016 NWSL College Draft in January.
Western New York enters Saturday night following a 1-0 road loss to the Orlando Pride last weekend, and this match with Sky Blue FC marks the first of seven consecutive home games. In its only other home outing of the 2016 season, the Flash fell to the Washington Spirit by a tally of 3-0.
Historically, these two teams have played 10 times in NWSL competition, with Western New York currently holding a 6-3-1 advantage in results.
Sky Blue FC is on the road for its next two contests, beginning on Saturday night. After playing the Flash, the team will then travel to the Chicago Red Stars before returning home to Yurcak Field on June 11th to host FC Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that match are available now.
