San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas---The Colts announced today they have resigned to important cogs of their 2010 squad, in both player/coach Joe Rhomberg and second baseman Mark Ramos. Rhomberg, has been a part of the Colts since 2006, while Ramos had a big rookie year for San Angelo and solidified their second base spot. Both will play the same roles this year as the Colts look to get back to the playoffs after just missing it last season.
Joe Rhomberg has been a professional player for nearly a decade. The 29-year old Rhomberg will begin his 9th season of pro ball. Joe will enter his sixth season with the Colts and fifth as a player/coach for San Angelo. Rhomberg, who became a coach at the ripe old age of 24, began his Colts career the same season Doc Edwards took over as manager for San Angelo in 2006. He began as a utility man for San Angelo that season and went to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champion Alexandria Aces.
Joe, in fact, has been with Doc since the first year of his career in 2003, making it eight of his nine pro seasons with Edwards. Doc is well aquatinted with the Rhomberg family. Joe's Dad Kevin played in the majors for the Indians and while at Triple-A in the Tribe's organization he played under you guessed it, Skipper Doc Edwards. As a coach Joe helped bring the 2009 Colts squad to within one victory of a league title. As a player Rhomberg is an excellent fielder and has played every position except for pitcher and catcher during his career.
Mark Ramos who hails form East Moline Illinois played collegiately at Augustana College (IL) finishing his career as the school's leader in triples. Mark was a four-year starter at shortstop and hit .378 his senior year with 4 homers and 41 RBI. After playing in just five games with Rio Grande in 2009 he kept his rookie status last season and had a great rookie year for San Angelo. In 2010 he hit .310 with 1 homerun and 30 RBI doing a great job of getting on base for the big boppers in the Colts lineup with a .408 on base percentage and did a great job defensively at second.
