Saves for Big Brothers & Sisters

Brandon, MB. - -ScotiaMcLeod, in association with the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, is pleased to announce that over $800 was raised during this year's "Saves for Big Brothers and Sisters" campaign.

During the 2015-16 season, each save made by Brandon goalkeepers Jordan Papirny and Logan Thompson at Westman Place resulted in a donation of $1 to Brandon's Big Brothers and Sisters.

In Brandon's 36 regular season home games, the club's netminders combined to stop 856 shots, meaning a cheque for $856 will be donated by ScotiaMcLeod.

During the regular season, Papirny, who tied Tyler Plante for both the Single Season and All Time Shutout record this past season, compiled a 2.62 goals against average and a .910 save percentage in 54 appearances. Thompson meanwhile posted a 2.63 goals against and an .898 save percentage in 23 games played this past year.

The Brandon Big Brothers agency was incorporated as a charitable organization in 1972, with more representative amalgamation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Brandon occurring in 1981.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada is a national organization that was initated in 1913 and was formally chartered in 1964, that is dedicated to positively impacting the development of children from single parent families. There are over 180 community agencies across the country, each with their own Board of Directors and specific community activities and objectives.

ScotiaMcLeod is a leading financial services firm offering total solutions, including investments, wealth management and financial planning. In addition to the donation, ScotiaMcLeod purchased a pair of 2015-16 Season Tickets for Big Brothers and Sisters.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings will be hoping to climb back into their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series when they take on the Oil Kings in Edmonton on Wednesday. The Wheat Kings trail the best of seven opening round series two games to nothing, following back to back losses on home ice last week.
