Savage returns to Wildcats for 2006 season

ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats announce today the signing of their leading receiver, offensive specialist Antwone Savage. The Wildcats have also added wide receiver/linebacker Iverick Harris, wide receiver/defensive back Alvin Jackson, quarterback Victor Leath and fullback/linebacker Musa Nash.

Savage, (5-11, 180 pounds), led the Wildcats' receivers in receptions (87), receiving yards (1,070) and receiving touchdowns (22). He averaged 12 yards per catch and 71 receiving yards per game last season. Savage returned 23 kickoffs for 475 yards and two touchdowns and led the team with 1,549 all-purpose yards. As a defensive back, he also added 15 tackles and one fumble recovery. Savage had over 100 yards receiving in six straight games as the Wildcats offensive specialist.

Savage, an Albany native and Westover High School standout finished his college career at Oklahoma as the school's second all-time receiver. He totaled 157 receptions for 2,009-yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2002, he had 35 catches for 438-yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 316-yards and earned second team All-Big 12 Conference honors as a kickoff returner. Savage led the Sooners receivers with 34 receptions for 446-yards and five touchdowns in 2001 and was voted first team All-Big 12 Conference by the Fortworth Star-Telegram. As a sophomore, Savage led the Sooners with 50 catches for 621-yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 160-yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. As a senior at Westover High School, Savage totaled 2,099-yards as he spent time as a quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback. He threw for 1,230-yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 869-yards and nine touchdowns to go along with 26 tackles.

Jackson, (6-1, 185 pounds), played two seasons at Albany State University. In 24 games, Jackson totaled 70 receptions for 1,208 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also recorded 66 punt returns for 817 yards and two touchdowns.

Leath, (6-3, 185 pounds), saw action in nine games at Fayetteville State University. He completed 42-of-98 passes for 505 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions along with 183 yards on 45 rushing attempts.

Harris, (6-3, 220 pounds), had three catches for 75 yards as a member of the East Carolina University football team.

Nash, (6-0, 245 pounds), joins the Wildcats by way of Fort Valley State University. In six games, he recorded 15 tackles (10 solo) and 1.5 sacks.

The Arena Football League is entering its 20th season and the South Georgia Wildcats are entering their second season in Albany, GA.
