Savage Falls 10-6 against Monterrey Flash

Chihuahua, Chih.- In a match held at Arena Corner Sport, Monterrey Flash defeated Chihuahua Savage 10-6, marking the reigning champion's first setback in the 2023-2024 Major Arena Soccer League season. In a clash of undefeated teams where the home side boasted a 2-0 record as the best defense in the league, and the visitors came in with the title of the highest-scoring team with 3 consecutive victories. Amidst high expectations, former Chihuahua Savage player Edgar "Torrez" González opened the scoring, while one minute later, Baja California natives Javier "Pony" Gallegos leveled the score, and Jaime Romero secured a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Ismael "Big" Rojo equalized with a stunning long-distance goal from a corner kick, and Hiram "Pollo" Ruiz restored the Monterrey Flash lead to 3-2. However, 30 seconds later, Brazilian Adriano Nunes placed a freekick into the top corner to level the game once again. Meanwhile, Roberto Escalante gave the hosts a partial victory before halftime. Just 7 seconds into the third period, Hugo "Roca" Puentes comfortably gave Chihuahua Savage a two-goal lead at 5-3. However, Monterrey Flash surprisingly scored three consecutive unanswered goals through well-executed plays by Edgar González, Walter Ayoví, and Luis Genero Castillo, causing a turnaround. With the score at 6-5 going into the final period, the Monterrey team continued their scoring spree, as Luis Genaro Castillo completed his brace, Alexis "Peli" Espinoza, Hiram Ruiz, and Edgar "Chapa" Flores sealed the victory. Roberto Escalante also scored a brace for the honor goal. The player of the match was Luis Genero Castillo, who contributed 3 offensive points with two goals and one assist, while goalkeeper Berna Valdovinos made a total of 18 saves. With this result, Monterrey Flash now has 4 consecutive wins and 11 points, positioning themselves at the top of the Eastern Conference, while Chihuahua Savage holds a record of 2-0-1 with 6 points, maintaining their lead in the Western Conference. Both squads will face each other on Sunday, December 17th, at 3:35 PM at the UANL Tigre Sports Complex in the second match of the "Mexican classic."
