Spokane Shock News Release

Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that Assistant Head Coach Matt Sauk has signed a contract with the Arizona Rattlers to play Quarterback. Sauk is expected to rejoin the Shock Coaching Staff at the conclusion of the Rattlers season.

In 2007, Sauk played for the Grand Rapids Rampage-where he started in three games-and the Los Angeles Avengers. Sauk, who is entering his third season in the AFL, had his best season in 2006 with the Philadelphia Soul, where he completed 65% of his passes with 20 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

"We're certainly thrilled for Matt's opportunity. It was a tough decision for him, but he was presented with a tremendous opportunity that was simply too good to pass up," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "In the meantime, we will push forward and welcome him when he returns."

During his career in the af2, Sauk won the Offensive Player of the Year Award in 2005 with the Louisville Fire where Shackleford was the Offensive Coordinator. He finished his career in the af2 with the most career completions (1,432), eighth-highest career completion percentage (62.1%), second-most career passing yards (14,142) and second-most career touchdown passes (345).

The Shock (6-0) host the Tri-Cities Fever (2-4) this weekend at the Spokane Arena on Spokane Tribe Field. Some tickets are still available for this weekend's game and can be purchased through TicketsWest.
