Louisville Fire News Release
The Louisville Fire Arena Football team announced the assignment of quarterback Matthew Sauk by the arenafootball2 office today. Sauk, 6'1 225 Utah State, will be returning to the Fire for his second season and his fourth overall in af2.
Last season Sauk set nearly every passing record for the Fire while leading the team to a 9-7 record and their first ever playoff berth. In 2004 Sauk completed 60.6 percent of his passes while throwing for 4,370 yards (a career high) and 76 touchdowns all Fire single season records. Sauk established an af2 high of 10 touchdown pass on May 8 at Memphis in a 70-63 Fire victory.
"We are excited to have Matt Sauk back for our 2005 season," commented Fire offensive coordinator Adam Shackelford. "As important as a quarterback is in this league having his experience and leadership is vital to this organization."
Sauk, who played under current University of Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino at Utah St., is third in af2 history in career passing yards with 12,653 and tied for second in touchdown passes with 246 in just three years in the league. Last season he also led the af2 in total offense averaging 273.2 yards a game, passing yards (4,370), total offensive yards (4,371) and passing yards per game (273.1).
The Fire will open their 2005 home schedule in Freedom Hall on April 15 against the South Georgia Wildcats. Fire season tickets are on sale now starting at $49 and can be purchased by calling (502)368-0009 or visiting www.louisvillefirefootball.com.
