af2 to AFL Pipeline Flowing Stronger Than Ever
January 27, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - With final rosters set for opening weekend of the Arena Football League's 19th season, 116 former af2 players have made the final roster or practice squad for an AFL team. In addition, 26 former af2 coaches and 27 past af2 officials are now working in the AFL, the af2 League office announced today.
"These numbers solidify af2's position as the premier developmental league in the country," af2 President Jerry Kurz said. "Our record of development is unmatched and continues to grow stronger each season."
To date, nearly 25 percent of the players currently in the AFL have played in af2. The complete roster of af2 players now on an AFL team is listed at the end of this release.
Of the 26 coaches currently in the AFL with af2 experience, 10 are former af2 head coaches, three serve as current AFL head coaches, four were coaching in af2 during the 2004 season and one is a former af2 player. The complete list is detailed at the end of this release.
The 27 former af2 officials currently working in the AFL include 12 that officiated in af2 last season. All officiating in Arena Football is overseen by the NFL Supervisors of Officials, which is a group of eight supervisors (four in AFL, and four in AF2) that recruit, train and develop all game officials in af2 and the AFL. The officials that have moved up to the AFL this season include: Barry Anderson (Back Judge), Terry Brown (Referee), Richard Brown (Umpire), Michael Delaney (Umpire), Wayne Mackie (Line Judge), Julian Mapp (Head Linesman), Brian Matthew (Line Judge), Greg Wilson (Back Judge), Dirk Bell (Line Judge), Tim Morris (Umpire), Kevin McGrath (Head Linesman), Greg Shields (Head Linesman) and Keith Washington (Back Judge).
