Gastonia Grizzlies News Release
GASTONIA, N.C. - David Sauer (Presbyterian) pitched six innings and didn't allow a run for his first victory (1-2) of the season as the Grizzlies downed Martinsville 6-2 Tuesday night at Sims Legion Park.
The righty from Irmo, S.C., allowed only three hits while striking out three and walking one in Gastonia's first game since the CPL took two days off for the All-Star game in Florence, S.C.
Jeremy Howell (Kennesaw State) was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Blake Edwards (Columbus State) and Brennan Morgan (Kennesaw State) both went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
The Grizzlies (9-4, 26-15) have an open date Wednesday before traveling to Forest City on Thursday and then playing the Owls in a doubleheader Friday for Midnight Madness at Sims Legion Park.
Winners of the CPL West Division first-half championship, Gastonia clinched a postseason berth on July 29. The Petitt Cup playoffs begin Aug. 5 featuring the top eight teams in the league in best-of-three, first-round series with the higher seeds holding home-field advantage.
