Sarasota Paradise News Release

Sarasota, Fla. - Sarasota Paradise has announced the signing of All-League Team Player Declan Watters, adding a proven USL League One defender and experienced leader to the club ahead of its inaugural professional season.

Watters arrives in Sarasota following multiple seasons of consistent professional performance, most recently with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. During the 2025 season, he earned USL League One All-League First Team honors after making over 30 appearances and establishing himself as one of the league's most recognizable leaders.

A native of Dublin, Ireland, Watters developed in the Shamrock Rovers Academy before continuing his career in the United States. He played collegiately at the University of Akron, where he was part of nationally successful teams, including a run to the NCAA Championship Final, and later served as team captain. He completed his collegiate career at Drake University, captaining the side and earning Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Watters began his professional career in Sweden with Vänersborgs IF in Ettan Södra before returning to the United States. Across his professional career, he has accumulated more than 90 appearances across multiple competitions.

Known for his firm leadership, his ability to read the game, and his versatility across the back line, Watters brings commanding presence, competitiveness, and composure to Sarasota Paradise as the club prepares for its first professional campaign.

"It's a massive honour to be a part of the club's first professional roster," Watters said. "It's a unique opportunity to help build something from the ground up, and I'm grateful the club has given me the chance to do that."

Head Coach and Technical Director Mika Elovaara welcomed Watters to the Paradise squad.

"I have known about Declan for quite some time, and I am thrilled to have him as part of our 2026 roster. Having coached against him in the past couple of seasons, I can tell you that opposing attackers do not look forward to facing him in a back line. I expect Declan to come in and lead from day one, helping us forge a defensive identity that aligns with our core values and gives our fans plenty of defensive actions to celebrate."

Watters joins a growing roster as Sarasota Paradise continues preparations for its inaugural professional season.
