
Santana Named to US National Futsal Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y - For the fifth time in his career Nelson Santana has been named to the U.S. National Futsal Team to compete in the Four Nations Tournament. The first leg of the tournament will be played on June 5th-June 8th, where Santana and 14 other U.S. members will head to Newcastle, England. They will play the second leg of their tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 12th and June 14th. The U.S. team comes in as the 2013 defending champs.
Nelson Santana has been playing on the U.S. National Team since 2010 and was a member of the 2013 championship Futsal Team, who went 3-0 in last year's matches. Santana will be one of seven midfielders to make up the 2014 roster.
Santana is a member of the Syracuse Silver Knights and is the team captain. Santana has been a defender for the Silver Knights but will continue to play as a midfielder for the U.S. team. During the Silver Knights 2013-2014 regular season Santana scored 14 goals, 11 assists, 29 blocks and a total of 42 points. In the Knights playoff run, Santana scored one goal and earned three points. Santana played in all 24 of the Silver Knights games earning him first team Defensive All-MISL honors and being selected for the 2013-2014 All-MISL 1st team.
Santana will train with the U.S. team in Milwaukee before beginning tournament play in England. The U.S. National Team will then travel to Newcastle England where they will kick off play against Qatar on June 5th, Cyprus on June 6th and England on June 8th. The team will then head back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and will finish their last 2 games against France on June 12th and June 14th at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Kern Center. Both games will be open to the public and free of charge.
