ROCKFORD, Ill. â Rico Santana extended his hitting streak to 12 games as the Rockford RiverHawks blew out the River City Rascals, 13-4, in a rain-shortened game. The crowd of 1,848 was sent home early after the game was called with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Rockford rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-2 lead and held it the rest of the way.
The âHawks loaded the bases with one out in the first inning. Aaron McEachran drove in a run on a groundout, a Zach Riera passed ball brought home Brian Baron and Olmo Rosario singled in the go-ahead run.
Santana was 1-for-4 with two RBI. He doubled in a run in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest by a Rockford hitter this year. The RiverHawks turned the game into a blowout in the seventh by taking advantage of four River City errors in an 11-batter, six-run inning. The Rascals totaled seven errors.
Derek Roper (3-0) scattered two runs, one earned, on seven hits over six innings for his third straight win. Rockford knocked out River City starter Rick Wood (1-2) after three innings.
The Mid-Missouri Mavericks come in for a three-game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The first 1,000 fans through the gate get free tops on Jack Wolf Auto/Y-95 T-Shirt Night.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 â the Hub.
