Rochester Rhinos News Release

(Rochester, NY)...The United Soccer Leagues announced that Rochester Raging Rhinos defender Frankie Sanfilippo has been named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week Eight. Puerto Rico Islanders midfielder Mauricio Salles was named the Overall First Division Player of the Week.

Sanfilippo, the 5-9, 166-pound native of San Diego, California, has appeared in all nine games for the Rhinos this season, collecting three points (1+1). Sanfilippo has been one of the main reasons for the Rhinos 3-0-1 record in their last four matches. On June 10th, Sanfilippo made several key defense plays to help guide the Rhinos to a 1-0 win over the Toronto Lynx at Frontier Field. On May 31st, he scored his first professional goal against the Toronto Lynx in the fourth minute. On June 3rd, Sanfillippo assisted on Kirk Wilson's second goal in the match. Last season, Sanfilippo appeared in 25 games with the Syracuse Salty Dogs (A-League).

Puerto Rico midfielder Mauricio Salles led the Islanders to their third win of the season over the Portland Timbers. With both goals in a 2-0 win, he extended their current unbeaten streak to five games. In just the sixth minute, Salles took a cross from Petter Villagas and put his left-footed shot past Portland goalkeeper Josh Saunders for the 1-0 lead. Then in the 74th minute, Salles essentially put the game away, as he scored a spectacular goal from 24-yards out that left the Timbers defense stunned and the Islanders with a two-goal lead.
