Sanaldo Traded To Cougars For Draft Selection

(Southfield, Mich., June 5, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition has acquired the second overall selection in the 2007 Major Indoor Soccer League Expansion Draft from the California Cougars in exchange for the playing rights for goalkeeper Sanaldo, Ignition President Greg Bibb announced Tuesday. California had acquired the expansion pick in a previous trade with the New Jersey MISL club set to begin play in the 2007-08 season. Sanaldo was Detroit's first overall selection in the 2006 MISL Expansion Draft and served as the club's primary netminder during the 2006-07 campaign.

Sanaldo received All-MISL Second Team honors while stopping 325 of 451 shots faced and allowing 10.85 points per game over the course of the 2006-07 season. The 29-year-old goalkeeper was awarded the MISL Goalkeeper of the Month Award for November 2006 while also receiving three Goalkeeper of the Week honors during the 2006-07 campaign. The Brazil native made his MISL debut in the 2003-04 season and was chosen as an All-Rookie Team selection.
