Sanaldo receives second consecutive weekly award

(Southfield, Mich., January 16, 2006) - The Major Indoor Soccer announced Detroit Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo has been designated as the League's Goalkeeper of the Week for the seven-day interval ending January 14. This is the third time during the 2006-07 campaign that the four-year veteran has been selected as the League's top weekly netminder. The native of Feiras de Santana, Brazil also received the honor for the seven-day periods ending November 12 and January 7. This makes him the club's first-ever consecutive winner of the weekly accolade. Sanaldo registered a 14-6 victory over the Milwaukee Wave on Friday, January 12 at Compuware Sports Arena and followed with a 17-14 win against the Wave in Milwaukee on Sunday, January 14. Sunday's triumph over Milwaukee was Sanaldo's fourth consecutive win. The 28-year old netminder was also selected as the League's Goalkeeper of the Month for November.
This season, Sanaldo (6-5) has stopped 146 of 203 shots for a .719 save percentage while establishing a 10.07 points against average, good for second place in the MISL rankings. Last season, Sanaldo minded the net for the Baltimore Blast during a successful League Championship run before being selected first overall in June's MISL Expansion Draft.
Offensive Player of the Week recognition went to Greg Howes, a four-time All-MISL forward, of the Milwaukee Wave for scoring eight points over the weekend to move into second place on the MISL PUMA Scoring Champions Leaderboard with 45 points. Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Philadelphia KiXX star Genoni Martinez who registered two three-point goals and two assists in the first-place club's 16-8 defeat of the defending League Champion Baltimore Blast.
