
San Jose's Grieb Voted Week 17 National Guard MVP

TULSA, Okla. - San Jose QB MARK GRIEB has been named the National Guard MVP of the Week for his performance in Week 17 of the 2011 AFL season, as voted on by fans.
On Facebook.com, Grieb received over 60 percent of the votes after leading the SaberCats to their first victory in two months. The seven game drought was the longest in SaberCats history, but the victory, 83-70, came over the top-ranked Jacksonville Sharks. Grieb completed 32-of-48 passes for nine touchdowns and 401-yards. In the fourth quarter, Grieb ran for a crucial 4-yard touchdown, boosting San Jose to 63-56 lead that they would give up. Grieb was also awarded Week 17 Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Jacksonville.
The SaberCats (6-9) will host the Orlando Predators (9-6) in Week 18 on Saturday, July 9 at 10:30 p.m. EST.
Other candidates for the award included Arizona QB Nick Davila and Cleveland QB Kurt Rocco.
