Grieb Named National Guard MVP for Week 17

SAN JOSE, CA - The SaberCats are pleased to announce QB Mark Grieb has been named National Guard MVP for his performance in Week 17, as voted on by fans on Facebook.com.

Grieb (6-2, 200) received 65 percent of the fans' vote for his effort in the SaberCats' 83-70 over the Jacksonville Sharks, marking the most points scored in the AFL this season, by any team. Grieb threw for 401 yards on 32-of-48 (66.7%) passing for a season-high nine touchdown passes to go along with a rushing score in San Jose's sixth win of the season. His 401 yards marked the fourth largest total in franchise history. Grieb also surpassed 4,000 yards and 70 touchdown passes for the year, marking the sixth and eighth consecutive seasons he's reached those marks, respectively, with both standing as AFL records.

The honor was Grieb's first National Guard MVP of the season. He was also awarded Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.

Other candidates included Arizona QB Nick Davila and Cleveland QB Kurt Rocco.
