San Jose Giants to Wear Hats Featuring State of the Art Technology this Saturday

San Jose, CA- Saturday, June 20 the San Jose Giants will Paint the Park Purple for their third annual Relay For Life Night at Municipal Stadium. The team will be wearing purple, custom San Jose Giants 5950 New Era caps. These hats are equipped with state of the art reflective technology that the NFL debuted last season and the San Jose Giants are bringing to the baseball world.

When exposed to a camera phone flash the reflective material reveals a mosaic of cancer ribbons symbolizing the fight to end cancer. A limited number of caps will be available in the San Jose Giants Dugout Store at Municipal Stadium on Saturday and a portion of the proceeds from each cap sold will be donated to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.

Fans who purchase hats are encouraged to post pictures and selfies on social media using #SJGSelfie as well as tagging @SJGiants and @RelayForLife. One lucky fan who posts will win a prize pack, including a team autographed hat!

"When I was introduced to this technology at last year's Baseball Winter Meetings by New Era, I was immediately eager to discuss the possibilities", said Juliana Paoli, San Jose Giants Chief Marketing Officer. "Sitting down with the designer one-on-one and utilizing the latest innovation in the industry to support a cause that is not only important to me personally but the entire organization has brought a new, exciting element to the night. I know our fans are going to be just as enthusiastic as I am about these hats. I can't wait to see the park painted purple and #SJGSelfie trending on social media."

Prior to first pitch, the team will host a pregame ceremony to honor all those fighting and affected by cancer. Players and coaches from the San Jose Giants and Inland Empire 66ers will come together on the baseball diamond with cancer survivors as well as family members and caregivers, signifying the worldwide effort to join together and find a cure. They will then release purple balloons into the air remembering all the loved ones who have lost their fight.

The team will also be wearing and auctioning off purple jerseys during an in-game silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. Following the game, the lucky winning bidders will get to go on the field to retrieve their jersey right off the respective San Jose Giants' back. In addition, all fans in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a luminaria walk postgame to honor and remember all those affected by the disease.
