SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Giants right-handed starting pitcher Chris Heston was named the California League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on May 15. Heston went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA with eight strikeouts and zero walks in seven innings last week.
Heston owns a 4-1 record with a 2.76 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 11 walks in 42.1 innings so far this season. He has won four of his last five starts with 24 strikeouts.
The Giants' right-hander enters the new week among the top of many California League pitching categories. Heston is tied for second in wins (4), fourth in ERA (2.76) and WHIP (1.11) and 10th in innings pitched (42.1).
Heston is the second California League Player of the Week for the San Jose Giants during the current 2011 season. Outfielder Gary Brown was named California League Offensive Player of the Week last week. In the 2010 season, the Giants had five winners:
