Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - A rocky start for Lancaster quickly morphed into one of the team's best games of the season. After falling behind 4-0 in the first, the JetHawks exploded for a season high in runs and hits in a 14-6 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm (12-25). Lancaster (17-20) has now won five consecutive home games.
The turning point came in the fourth inning with Lancaster trailing 6-3. Rene Garcia opened the frame with a single, the first of 13 JetHawks batters who would come to the plate. Jose Altuve and Kody Hinze hit back-to-back home runs, with Altuve's a three-run blast. J.C. Thompson added a RBI single and Garcia knocked his second hit of the inning, this time driving in two runs. Jordan Comadena drove in the eighth and ninth runs of the inning with a single, his second two-run hit of the game.
While Lancaster starter Luis Cruz struggled, the bullpen was strong in holding the lead. Andrew Robinson earned the win in his first game since returning to the JetHawks from Double-A. He surrendered just one run on three and 1/3 innings. Mike Ness, Yordany Ramirez, and Colt Pitkin each hurled a scoreless inning.
Comadena and Altuve each drove in four runs. Austin Wates extended his hit streak to 12, matching his career-high and the longest streak of the season for a Lancaster batter. Grant Hogue and Jonathan Meyer each stretched their hit streaks to ten.
The JetHawks look for a series sweep of the Storm in a rare morning game at Clear Channel Stadium Monday. Robby Donovan (2-2) will pitch for Lancaster against Mike Watt (0-5) of LakeElsinore. It is a Mmm Mmm Monday with $1 hot dogs and half-price hamburgers and chicken sandwiches. The contest will begin at 11:00 and will be broadcast live on radio by 87.7 Kickin' Country and online at CSN at JetHawks.com (click the listen live link). The Pre-Game Show starts at 10:45.
