Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Lake Elsinore scored early and often against JetHawks starter Robby Donovan en route to a 12-1 victory over Lancaster at Clear Channel Stadium Monday. Donovan gave up four hits and seven runs in three and 2/3 innings pitched and the JetHawks were baffled by Storm pitching throughout the contest.
Donovan (2-3) looked sharp early. The right-hander retired the first three batters he faced in the opening frame. But Lake Elsinore drew first blood in the top of the second when Jason Hagerty smacked a two-run home run. After the Storm added a run in the third, Donovan allowed four runs in the top of the fourth on just two hits. Danny Payne ripped a two-run double and Lake Elsinore took advantage of two walks in the frame to extend the lead to 7-0.
Meanwhile, Storm starter Mike Watt kept the JetHawks off-balance throughout the afternoon. Watt (1-5) allowed just four hits and one walk in five scoreless innings and earned his first win of the season.
The Storm built a 12-0 lead through seven and =C21/2 innings before the JetHawks finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. Jonathan Meyer extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI single. Jose Altuve, Ben Heath and Jordan Comadena each collected two hits for Lancaster.
The loss prevented Lancaster from earning a series sweep, but the JetHawks did win the three-game set over Lake Elsinore. Lancaster fell to 17-21 while Lake Elsinore improved to 13-25.
The JetHawks will try to bounce back on Tuesday night against High Desert at 7. Right-hander Jake Buchanan (3-2, 2.01 ERA) gets the start for Lancaster while the Mavericks are expected to counter with right-hander Chris Sorce (3-1, 2.93 ERA). Tune in to CSN@JetHawks.com and FM 87.7 Kickin' Country for all the live action beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. It's Irish Heritage Night at Clear Channel Stadium and fans will get to enjoy Irish cuisine, music and activities throughout the ballgame.
