THE SAN JOSE GIANTS...continue their road trip Sunday evening with the opener of a four-game series against the Inland Empire 66ers. San Jose has won four consecutive games after a three-game sweep at Bakersfield to open the Second Half. The Giants posted victories of 4-1, 11-6, and 14-11 over the Blaze. San Jose owns the top overall record in the California League at 42-31.

Hot Bats...The Giants scored 25 runs in the last two games at Bakersfield marking the first time all season they've scored in double figures in consecutive contests. On Saturday, San Jose posted a season-high 14 runs while matching their high of 18 hits. Individually, left fielder Ben Copeland has led the offensive attack. Over the last two games, Copeland is 7-for-10 (.700) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, five RBI, and two stolen bases. Copeland paces the club with a .331 batting average. Meanwhile, Catchers Pablo Sandoval (5-for-5, 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI) and Adam Witter (3-for-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) put up big numbers at the plate on Friday and Saturday respectively.

First Meeting Of 2007...This series marks the first time in 2007 that the Giants will play Inland Empire. The 66ers were the only team San Jose did not face during the First Half. This will be the Giants' only regular season visit to San Bernardino while Inland Empire travels to San Jose for their lone trip to the Bay Area, July 14-16.

Starting Pitchers...Darren Sack makes the start on the mound Sunday night in the series opener. Sack did not receive a decision in his first three starts in San Jose after joining the club from Connecticut (AA) on June 4. Paul Oseguera gets the ball on Monday in his Second Half debut. Oseguera, who was pushed back an extra three days as he recovers from a blister on his pitching hand, is eighth in the California League in ERA (3.05). On Tuesday, it will be Joe Martinez on the hill. Martinez fired a season-high eight innings in his last start (3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 SO) - a victory at Bakersfield on June 21. The right-hander is tied for fifth in the league in victories (6), tenth in ERA (3.34), and fourth in strikeouts (78). Ronnie Ray is scheduled to start in the road trip finale on Wednesday. Ray fired five scoreless innings on June 22 at Bakersfield before surrendering four runs, without recording an out, in the bottom of the sixth. He was still credited with his sixth win of the year.

Futures Game...Two San Jose Giants were named to the Futures Game July 8 at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Shortstop Brian Bocock will play for the US Team while pitcher Henry Sosa has been named to the World squad. Bocock started the 2007 season in Augusta (Low-A) and hit .292 with one home run and 20 RBI with the Greenjackets. He was leading the South Atlantic League in stolen bases with 26 (in just 39 games) at the time of his promotion. Since joining San Jose on May 20, Bocock is hitting .276 in 28 games with one home run, 16 RBI, and four stolen bases. Sosa had the lowest ERA in Minor League Baseball while pitching at Augusta. The right-hander allowed just five earned runs over 62 innings with the Greenjackets for a spectacular 0.73 earned run average. He was promoted to San Jose on June 17 and has allowed eight earned runs in eight innings over his first two California League starts.

Inland Empire 66ers...The 66ers, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, enter the series with a 40-33 overall record. Inland Empire finished tied for first in the First Half South Division race with Lancaster. The 66ers lost two-of-three at Lake Elsinore to open the Second Half. James McDonald, who starts on the mound Sunday, is second in the California League in strikeouts (84). Second baseman Travis Denker leads the club with a .343 batting average.
