San Diego Wave FC News Release


SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave FC is set to kick off its 2023 NWSL regular season campaign at home against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, March 25. Scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. PT, the Wave's season opener will be broadcast CBS Sports Network.

This Thursday, March 23, Head Coach Casey Stoney and defender Naomi Girma will be available to the media via virtual press conference. See below for more details, including how to RSVP.

Saturday's match against Chicago kicks off the first full season for the Wave at Snapdragon Stadium. The match will follow a record-shattering year for the first-year club, as the Wave opened at Snapdragon Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022 in front of an NWSL record 32,000 fans. The game against Chicago will mark the first of two consecutive home matches for the Wave, who will host North Carolina Courage (April 1) before traveling to Seattle to play OL Reign at Lumen Field on April 15.

The match against Chicago is a rematch from last year's playoffs, when the Wave hosted the Red Stars in the club's first-ever NWSL playoff game. After conceding an early goal, San Diego came from behind after a goal from midfielder Emily van Egmond tied it and an extra-time winner from forward Alex Morgan secured the playoff win.
