San Diego Surf News Release

(SAN FRANCISCO) - The San Diego Surf opened their 2010-11 season with an impressive 140-123 win over the San Francisco Rumble Thursday night. The game was played at Joseph Lee Recreation Center in San Francisco. The Rumble were ranked third in the ABA power rankings prior to the game.

Leading the way in scoring for the Surf was Tim Denson with 43 points. Other impressive perfomances included Dandridge, who had 33, Cornell Williams added 23 and Kona Kadima had 17.

San Francisco was led in scoring by Devougn Lamont with 35, Derek Foster had 24. One of the players on the Rumble's roster has San Diego connections. Cardell Butler played for the San Diego Wildcats, a former ABA team that ceased operations in 2009. Butler was an ABA All-Star in 2006 and 2007.

San Diego had a slim, two-point lead at halftime and only a four-point lead at the end of the third quarter, but an aggressive defense and transition game allowed the Surf to open the game up and finish with a 17 point margin of victory.

The Surf will continue their northern trip with a game Saturday November 13 against the Midland Titans in Exeter, CA, then another game Sunday November 14 in Sacramento to face the Heatwave. The Surf then return to HourGlass Arena for their home opener Saturday, November 20 at 7:00 PM against the Santa Barbara Breakers.
