San Diego Surf News Release
The San Diego Surf, ranked 19th in the American Basketball Association (ABA) out of 70 teams nationwide, sport a 5-3 record and kick off the New Year this Saturday at 7pm against the Riverside Rainmakers.
This will be the first home game of 12 scheduled for the next 8 weekends. The two teams met last month, and the Surf were able to hold off a late Rainmakers run for a 119-110 victory.
The Surf's backcourt duo of Tim Denson and Mo Clady are two of the fastest in the ABA, which has expanded to 70 teams nationwide and counting. The Rainmakers feature two seven-footers who play above the rim.
Not to mention, the Surf boast the league's best dance squad. But we digress.
Don't miss out on the chance to see the Surf in their second season this Saturday, 7 p.m. at the HourGlass Arena at Miramar College.
The ABA is well known for Julius "Dr. J." Erving, Moses Malone and George "The Iceman" Gervin, who also starred in the NBA as well as others. Many fans also don't realize the 3-point shot originated in the ABA. The League is also well known for its red, white and blue game ball.
Current fans say that this is exciting, fast-paced pro basketball, perfect for low-cost family entertainment. Tickets are $10 at the door, $8 online. For more information, visit: www.SDSurfHoops.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
