San Diego Spirit News Release

SAN DIEGO - Defender Joy Fawcett, midfielders Aly Wagner and Julie Foudy and goalkeeper Jaime Pagliarulo have been named to the 25-player U.S. Women's National Team roster that will train for five days in New Orleans, Louisiana, in preparation to face Brazil on July 13 at Tad Gromley Stadium in a match that will be televised live on ESPN at 1 p.m. PT.

The Spirit quartet will continue their quest to earn a spot on the U.S. 2003 Women's World Cup roster for the tournament that was recently moved to the United States. The USA will be training for five days in New Orleans prior to the match against Brazil. Except for WUSA matches, this will be the last chance for the Spirit players to show their talents before U.S. National Team head coach April Heinrichs chooses her 2003 Women's World Cup team in early to mid-August. Spirit midfielder Daniela will join San Jose's Katia and Pretinha on the Brazilian team for the match in the "Big Easy." More than a half dozen players on the Brazilian roster played for their U-19 team, which played in last year's FIFA world championship for youth women in Canada. Brazil qualified for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup by winning the South American Women's Championships last April in Peru.
