
San Diego Sockers Host Second Annual Cool School Event

The San Diego Sockers (6-8) return home for their first game in the friendly confines of the Sports Arena since November 10th. The team will be looking to break a nasty two-game losing skid, as well as beat the Cleveland Force for the first time this season.
The December 5 game is the second annual Cool School Field Trip. Over 3,000 local school children will attend the game and take part in a Health and Safety Expo. Halftime entertainment will include a mascot game and a spelling bee.
Last Time: San Diego 10 at Harrisburg 12 ⬠Dec. 1, 2002
The team had a rough road trip going 1-4, including a 12-10 overtime loss in Harrisburg on Friday. The Sockers started the game unable to score in the first half for a 4-0 advantage to the Heat. The team ignited in the third on an 8-0 run, taking the score to 8-4. But the Heat tied things up in the fourth, 10-10, taking the game into over time. Ato Leone scored the winning goal at 8:28 in OT.
- Chile Farias has earned a point in every game he has played in this season, including four points against the Heat.
- Nick Vorberg was in the goal for the Sockers and totaled 19 saves.
- The game marked the first overtime game for the team this season.
Farias Named MISL Offensive Player Of The Month
The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Forward Carlos "Chile" Farias was recently named the MISL Offensive Player of the Month for his play in the month of November.
Farias posted three 3-point goals, seven 2-point tallies, seven assists and 30 points in six November outings. The native of Santiago, Chile also recorded one power play and one game-winning goal during November play.
The 26-year old forward enjoyed his most productive outing of the month on November 2 vs. Kansas City. In that contest, Farias posted three 2-point goals, a pair of assists and eight points in leading the Sockers to a 22-21 victory over the Comets. Farias recorded at least one point in all six of the November games in which he played and posted at least six points in four of his November outings.
Farias currently leads the MISL in scoring with 53 points and paces the League in both total goals with 18 and 3-point tallies with five. The 1996 Continental Indoor Soccer League Rookie of the Year also leads the MISL in sixth-attacker goals with four while sharing the League lead in assists with 12. Farias ranks second in 2-point goals with 13.
Home Sweet Home
Today's game is the first back in America's Finest City for the Sockers since Nov. 10. The team holds a 3-3 record in the Sports Arena, but ignited it¹s longest winning streak of the season with a win over Kansas City on Nov. 2 at home.

Several Sockers Top MISL Leaderboard
With a five-point performance last weekend, Carlos "Chile" Farias increased his lead in the Spalding Scoring Race to 53 points. He leads Kansas City's Dino Delevski by 11 points (42 points) and holds a 17-point advantage on Milwaukee's Joe Reiniger (36 points). Farias is also the MISL leader in assists with 12 while he is tied for the league lead in short-handed goals (one) with three other players.
Fellow teammate, defender Gaston Pernia has blocked 35 opponent shots in 14 games this season, putting him in first place in the MISL. Baltimore's Jason Dieter ranks second with 27. Pernia led the Sockers and the World Indoor Soccer League in blocks last season with 53 in 23 games.
Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg drops to second on the MISL's leading goalkeeper board with an 8.10 points-against average. Milwaukee's Victor Nogueira leads the list with a 7.64 points-against average.
East Meets West
The Sockers will be glad to return to California and the Western Conference. The team is 1-6 against Eastern Conference teams this season. The tally includes a 0-2 record against the Force this season.
