Farias, Pappas are November's Best

(Westport, Conn., December 4, 2002) – San Diego forward Carlos "Chile" Farias and Philadelphia Kixx goalkeeper Peter Pappas have been named the Major Indoor Soccer League's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month for November, the MISL announced on Wednesday. Farias led the MISL in scoring during November play while Pappas went unbeaten during the month while leading the Kixx (10-3) to the Eastern Conference's best overall record.

Offensive:

Farias posted three 3-point goals, seven 2-point tallies, seven assists and 30 points in six November outings. The native of Santiago, Chile also recorded one power play and one game-winning goal during November play.

The 26-year old forward enjoyed his most productive outing of the month on November 2 vs. Kansas City. In that contest, Farias posted three 2-point goals, a pair of assists and eight points in leading the Sockers to a 22-21 victory over the Comets. Farias recorded at least one point in all six of the November games in which he played and posted at least six points in four of his November outings.

Farias currently leads the MISL in scoring with 53 points and paces the League in both total goals with 18 and 3-point tallies with five. The 1996 Continental Indoor Soccer League Rookie of the Year also leads the MISL in sixth-attacker goals with four while sharing the League lead in assists with 12. Farias ranks second in 2-point goals with 13.

Others Receiving Consideration:

Kansas City forward Dino Delevski led the Comets and was second in November scoring with 26 points in seven games played. Delevski also ranks second in 2002-03 League scoring with 42 points on the campaign.

Dallas forward David Doyle registered eight goals, six assists and 24 points in seven November outings. Doyle accounted for 25% of Dallas' total goal production (32) during November play.

Comets forward Nino DaSilva posted eight goals, four assists and 21 points in five November outings. DaSilva is currently tied for eighth in 2002-03 MISL scoring with 30 points on the season.

Defensive:

Pappas concluded November with a perfect 6-0 record while allowing just 39 points in 362:45 of action. The Toronto native registered a 6.45 points against average while stopping 74 of 92 shots faced for a .804 save percentage.

The five-time all-star did not allow more than 11 points in any November contest and held opponents to five or fewer points in four of his six appearances. Pappas enjoyed his best outing of the month on November 30 vs. San Diego. In that contest, the 30-year-old goalkeeper stopped 19 of 21 shots faced in leading the Kixx to a 12-4 victory over the Sockers.

Pappas, who was named the MISL Defensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending November 3, boasts a 9-2 record with an 8.39 points against average and a .749 save percentage. The four-time All-League selection is tied for the MISL lead in victories while ranking second in minutes played with 664. Pappas also ranks third in points against average and fifth in save percentage.

Others Receiving Consideration:

Kansas City goalkeeper Paolo Ceccarelli went 4-0 with an 11.79 points against average and a .765 save percentage. Ceccarelli leads the MISL in save percentage for the season at .782.

Milwaukee goalkeeper Victor Nogueira posted a 3-1 record with a 7.20 points against average and a .745 save percentage. Nogueira leads the MISL in points against average for the season at 7.62.

Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin went 3-2 with a 12.67 points against average and a .712 save percentage. Larkin ranks third in the MISL on the season in both wins with six and saves with 152.
