WESTERN CHAMPS COME HOME FOR THREE
The Western Division Champion San Diego Sockers open a three game homestand to close out the regular season as they host Revolucion Tijuana for the last of four meetings. San Diego is 3-0 against Tijuana this year including a 13-6 victory in their last meeting in Del Mar. The Sockers have clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming PASL-Pro North American Championships in Cincinnati, to be played March 10th-12th.
SOCKERS TO HOST US OPEN FINAL
By virtue of their weekend sweep of Tacoma, the Sockers won the Western bracket of the US Open for Arena Soccer, and will host the championship final on March 19th against either Cincinnati or Louisville. Season ticket holders or advance ticket purchasers who hold tickets saying March 5th can use those tickets on the 19th for the US Open Final.
SWIFT HONORED AS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sockers keeper Riley Swift picked up the first shutout in San Diego's PASL-Pro history last Saturday, making 19 saves in a 5-0 victory over the Tacoma Stars. Swift successfully defended a shootout from former MISL MVP Greg Howes and five power plays for the second shootout in league history. Swift was honored by the PASL-Pro as the Sockers' fourth weekly winner of league player of the week honors.
HOME SWEET HOME: DEL MAR DOMINATION
The Sockers are a perfect 13-0 all-time in PASL-Pro regular season games at the Del Mar Arena, including a 5-0 mark this year. In addition San Diego is 2-0 in PASL-Pro playoff games at home, 4-0 in US Open contests and 2-0 in exhibitions for a combined home record of 21-0 all-time.
OPPONENT'S PROFILE: Revolucion Tijuana
vs. SOCKERS: 0-3
Last Meeting (1/29): Sockers 13, Revolucion 6
The Sockers and Revolucion Tijuana meet for the fourth and final time in their spirited regional rivalry. The Sockers have had the better of Revolucion this season, winning both games at Estadio Furati before coming home to dominate a 13-6 victory on January 29th. In that game Paul Wright had four goals and two assists to lead the Sockers to victory. San Diego is 6-1 all-time against Tijuana in the PASL-Pro.
STAR: Eduardo Velez, midfielder
Tijuana's leader was already on top of the PASL-Pro scoring list with 18 goals and 18 assists (36 points) in 11 games, before playing a weekend set against LMFR teams from Ensenada and Sinaloense in which Revolucion won twice and racked up 28 goals. Surely still leading the league in points, Velez is a relentless attacker who adds a borderline physical element to his game.
WATCH OUT FOR: Mario Moreno, midfielder
Moreno has been right in the middle of every confrontation between the Sockers and Revolucion this season. Moreno and Sockers captain Aaron Susi tangled in San Diego's home win on January 29th leading to red card ejections. If the game gets physical expect to see #7 Mario Moreno somewhere in the scrum.
Sockers midfielder Chiky Luna is unlikely to play due to a groin strain. Defender Josh Barton is out with a concussion.
