
San Antonio Scorpions to Complete Trifecta of Summer International Friendlies Against El Tri U-21s

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wednesday, May 28, 2014) - The San Antonio Scorpions will play their third international friendly against a high-profile Mexican team when they face the Mexican Federation of Association Football's Under-21 national team. The match will kickoff Saturday, June 28th, at 7:30pm at Toyota Field.
The El Tri U-21s is comprised mainly of footballers who play their club soccer for Liga MX powers such as: Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas), Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V. and Deportivo Toluca Fútbol Club S.A. de C.V.
"San Antonio is a passionate soccer city with strong ties to the Latin community and a dedicated Mexican fan base," said Head Coach Alen Marcina. "We're delighted to host the under 21 Mexican National Team in what will be a fantastic match for both sides and a great opportunity for the community to see the up-and-coming talent Mexico in a festive atmosphere at Toyota Field."
The current U-21s will likely form the core of the squad Mexico sends to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Mexico is the reigning Olympic champion as they won their country's first gold medal in soccer at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
"Playing the Mexican U-21 National Team will give the Scorpions the opportunity to face the team that is expected to comprise the Mexican Olympic Soccer team in 2016," said President Howard Cornfield. "Many of the players on the Mexican U-21 National Team will be recognized by our supporters as competing in Liga MX and we anticipate a great match."
With this addition, the Scorpions are offering an impressive slate of friendlies in 2014 that may be unmatched at any level of soccer in the U.S. or Canada. FC Dallas, Saprissa, Tigres, Monterrey and Mexico's U-21s will each have made appearances this year at Toyota Field.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday, May 23rd at noon. Tickets will be available at the Toyota Field box office, by calling the Scorpions at 210-495-8686 or through Ticketmaster.
San Antonio will host two other major international friendlies against famed Liga MX clubs this summer at Toyota Field. On June 21st at 7:30pm, they will face Tigres de la UANL and then on July 6th at 6:00pm, the Scorpions will take on Club de Fútbol Monterrey.
