San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 17, 2016) - San Antonio FC today announced that forward and 2016 joint-top scorer Franck Tayou will return for the 2017 USL season, pending USL and federation approval. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Despite joining the club midseason in June, Tayou tied for the SAFC lead in goals in 2016, scoring five in 17 games and 767 total minutes played. Tayou's 33 total shots ranked third on the club, while his 13 shots on goal were tied for third-most behind Carlos Alvarez and Rafa Castillo.

Tayou scored the first ever bicycle-kick goal for San Antonio against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Sept.17, which was voted runner-up in the SAFC Goal of the Season competition following the club's inaugural campaign.

"We are pleased to have Franck return with us for 2017," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "Franck arrived midseason and made an impact with our team immediately, while showing progress throughout the rest of the season. We look for him to continue to show progress and be a consistent player for us over the course of the 2017 season."

Tayou, an accomplished professional indoor soccer player, spent time with the Soles de Sonora of the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) prior to joining SAFC. The 26-year-old was named the 2015-16 MASL MVP after leading the league with 47 goals while recording 15 assists in 20 games. He led the Soles to the 2016 championship game where they narrowly fell to the Baltimore Blast. The 6-2 forward has spent time with other professional indoor teams including the Las Vegas Legends and the Tulsa Revolution, while also playing on outdoor PDL sides Real Maryland and the Las Vegas Mobsters.

"I'm really thankful to have another opportunity to do what I love," said Tayou. "I am looking forward to representing this great football club. I have a great relationship with the fans and I can't wait to play in front of them for another season."

Originally from Cameroon before moving to Las Vegas with his family during childhood, Tayou earned his first two caps with the U.S. Futsal National Team, playing a two-legged tie against Canada in CONCACAF Futsal Championship qualifying last summer. Tayou attended West Virginia University where he played soccer from 2010-11, leading the Mountaineers to the NCAA tournament in both seasons. The forward led West Virginia in goals in 2010 and recorded nine in his Mountaineer career.

San Antonio FC is currently prepping for its second season in the USL, which is scheduled to kick off in the spring. Fans interested in season tickets can contact the SAFC sales office at 210-444-5MLS or visit SanAntonioFC.com
