San Antonio FC News Release
KANSAS CITY, MO - San Antonio FC fell 2-1 to Swope Park Rangers on Saturday at Swope Soccer Village. A goal by Michael Reed and a quality performance by goalkeeper Matt Cardone were not enough for the club to earn points on the road.
SAFC first-time captain Michael Reed opened the scoring in the 30th minute after capitalizing on a through-ball from teammate Danny Garcia. The goal was Reed's third of the season, tying him for the club lead, along with Franck Tayou, Rafa Castillo, and Jason Johnson.
San Antonio goalkeeper Matt Cardone delivered a strong performance throughout the match. The Alamo City native recorded an impressive nine saves for the silver and black, surpassing the previous club record of six set by Josh Ford earlier this season.
The hosts found the equalizer in the 71st minute when Dane Kelly found the end of a cross and dinked the ball off the crossbar and into the goal. Forward Mark Anthony Gonzalez then scored the winning goal in the 84th minute to secure Swope Park Rangers' three points at home.
San Antonio FC will return to action on Saturday, August 6 as they visit Sacramento Republic FC in the first and only encounter between the two clubs this season. The match will be the second of three consecutive away matches for SAFC.
