TODAY'S NEWS
The 2019 San Antonio Commanders held its 10th of 22 Training Camp practices on Tuesday at Central Catholic High School's Bob Benson '66 Stadium.
The practice started at 11:30 a.m. and finished shortly before 1 p.m. with the players wearing full pads.
The practice session was at full speed with contact, although tackling was not completed to the ground.
The defensive backfield flexed its collective muscle on the day as Nick Orr (TCU) and Orion Stewart (Baylor) each had interceptions in team drills, while Derron Smith (Fresno State) recorded a key pass breakup in the situational third down segment.
Also flashing on the day was linebacker Joel Lanning (Iowa State) as he perfectly read a screen play to the left, jumped in front of the would-be receiver and intercepted the pass with nothing but green grass between him and the end zone.
The most noticeable contact between players came from the offensive and defensive lines as the groups worked together in pass rush drills.
The offensive play of the day came from the legs of running back Trey Williams (Texas A&M). Williams took an inside handoff, made a small move to the right and burst through the line untouched for what would have been a TD run.
