Orlando Apollos News Release

TODAY'S NEWS

The Apollos hit the field for practice on Tuesday morning, but the afternoon walkthrough was called off. The team now prepares for their first outside test as the Arizona Hotshots will visit Apollos camp for a joint practice on Wednesday.

HOTSHOTS AND APOLLOS SET TO CLASH: Head coach Rick Neuheisel and the Arizona Hotshots will travel to the University of the Incarnate Word on Wednesday morning for a joint practice with the Apollos, allowing Orlando to see how they stack up against competition in The Alliance for the first time.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT: The Apollos defensive line is learning from one of the best to ever do it in defensive line coach Jim Jeffcoat. A 14-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl champion with the Cowboys, Jeffcoat ranks amongst the top 30 players all-time in sacks with 102.5 in his NFL career. Jeffcoat's philosophy for his unit is simple: "We're going to knock people back, we're going to be disruptive and get tackles for loss."

CLOSE TO HOME: Like many other Apollos players allocated to Orlando based on their Florida-based college, Bethune-Cookman's own Ryan Davis Sr. is relishing the opportunity to play professional football close to his school and his hometown of Tampa, Fla. Davis brings another accomplished veteran presence to the Apollos defense - he spent six years in the NFL and was the 2011 FCS National Defensive Performer of the Year while at Bethune-Cookman.

The Orlando Apollos team headquarters while in training camp in San Antonio is the University of the Incarnate Word - all practices are open to the public.

A member of The Alliance of American Football, The Orlando Apollos are led by an experienced professional coaching, playing and front office staff featuring head coach Steve Spurrier, team president Mike Waddell and general manager Tim Ruskell.

The Apollos compete in The Alliance of American Football with The Atlanta Legends, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Arizona Hotshots, Salt Lake Stallions, San Antonio Commanders and San Diego Fleet. The name Orlando Apollos is inspired by Apollo, Greek god of the sun, who is often depicted as an archer. The Apollos' colors are derived from two shades of orange which are reflective of the warm Florida sunshine that is common to Orlando and central Florida, and the color navy also pays respect to the Apollo Space mission and the entire Florida Space Coast. The Apollos' arrow points east toward Florida.

Orlando Apollos' home games will be played at Spectrum Stadium. Fans can purchase season tickets for as low as $75 at www.orlandoapollos.com or by calling 833-AAF-2019.
