San Antonio Commanders Daily Training Camp Update for Thursday, January 24, 2019

TODAY'S NEWS

The 2019 San Antonio Commanders held its 18th of 22 Training Camp practices on Wednesday at Central Catholic High School's Bob Benson '66 Stadium.

The practice started at 11:30 a.m. and finished shortly before 1 p.m. with the players wearing shells (shoulder pads and helmets).

Practice was at full speed with no tackling.

Much of the focus of the day was the the red zone and third down conversion offense.

The defense stood tall in team drills, including interceptions from safety Kurtis Drummond, cornerback Jordan Thomas and linebacker Ed Shockley. Also collecting a pass breakup on the day was linebacker Joel Lanning as he deflected a pass in coverage against a running back.

The practice officially closed the Commanders' third week of Training Camp. An abbreviated fourth week of Training Camp remains before the San Antonio sets its roster at 52 on Jan. 31.

In transactions, the Commanders have waived (injured) offensive lineman Jared Machorro.

In front office news, the Commanders announced that Sinclair Broadcast Company - San Antonio as its official television partner. The agreement makes KMYS The CW35 San Antonio the television home of the Commanders for all games not selected as part of The Alliance's national television agreements. (full release)

The Commanders' roster is at 75 players from 50 different colleges and universities. The University of Houston has the most representation on the roster with five players.

A member of The Alliance of American Football, the San Antonio Commanders have an experienced professional coaching and front office staff led by head coach Mike Riley, general manager Daryl Johnston and team president Vic Gregovits.

The Commanders compete in The Alliance of American Football with the Atlanta Legends, Arizona Hotshots, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Orlando Apollos, Salt Lake Stallions and San Diego Fleet. The Commanders team name draws inspiration from San Antonio's Military City, USA nickname. From Bowie to Travis to the 39,000-plus who graduate each year from military training at Joint Base San Antonio, Commanders have called San Antonio home for more than 300 years.

The Commanders take their first snap on February 9 against the San Diego Fleet with home games being played at the Alamodome.
