TODAY'S NEWS

The 2019 San Antonio Commanders held its second of 21 Training Camp practices on Saturday at Central Catholic High School's Bob Benson '66 Stadium.

The practice started at 11:30 a.m. and finished shortly after 1:15 p.m. with the players wearing jerseys and helmets.

The Commanders announced the addition of defensive lineman Richard Ash, bringing its training camp roster to 75.

Richard Ash

A Pahokee, Fla., native, Ash spent three seasons at Michigan (2010-13) before transferring to Western Michigan (2014-15) in Kalamazoo for his final collegiate season. Over the course of his college career, Ash collected a career 45 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two pass deflections. Undrafted in 2015, Ash spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2015-16) and Dallas Cowboys (2016-17). In two NFL seasons, Ash totaled 21 tackles.

The defensive backfield, led by veteran coach Bill Bradley, stood out throughout the session. The 15-player rotation routinely knocked down passes, while Kurtis Drummond (Michigan State) came away with an interception.

The first wave offensive line created a large hole for running back Daryl Richardson (Abilene Christian) on a sweep to the right side what would have been a 50-plus yard touchdown run.

Also in attendance in were nearly 40 football coaches from various colleges, each of whom is in San Antonio for the American Football Coaches Associations' annual convention.

A member of The Alliance of American Football, the San Antonio Commanders have an experienced professional coaching and front office staff led by head coach Mike Riley, general manager Daryl Johnston and team president Vic Gregovits.
