Everett Hawks News Release
(Buffalo, NY) - Thanks to the generosity of Sam Adams, All-Pro Defensive Tackle for the Buffalo Bills, a total of 40 tickets to the November 27th Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers game were awarded to 8th grade students at Ben Franklin Middle School and 12th grade students from South Park High School as part of an essay contest.
The students, all of whom are participating in one of Junior Achievement's Personal Economics, Success Skills or JA Economics programs this year, had the opportunity to write an essay which had to be over 500 words in length. The 8th graders had to write about what they felt made a good citizen while the 12th graders topic was opportunity costs and trade offs that high school seniors must make in deciding what to do after graduation. This contest, which resulted in over 300 essays being submitted, was in conjunction with Sam's recent visits to both schools. During his visits he spoke to the students about the importance of making sure they have a plan for life, about being good citizens and making choices.
Sam Adams is no stranger to Junior Achievement as he has been involved with the organization when he played with the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens. He will continue to support Junior Achievement locally by serving as the celebrity chair for JA's 22nd Annual Bowl-A-Thon. This event will take place on Saturday March 11, 2006 at AMF Airport Lanes, AMF Thruway Lanes and Transit Lanes. Companies recruit teams of five players each that will help raise pledges for JA programs here in our community all the while enjoying two games of bowling at either a 9am, 12 noon of 3pm shift. If your company is interested in participating in the event, please contact Kathy Portanka at 853-1381 ext. 10.
